There's nothing big happening. Unless you consider everyday life big, which some do.
There are lots of good little things, which I'd like to remember.
There are lots of good little things, which I'd like to remember.
The chicks are getting to be big and pretty sassy.
One in particular is very naughty and seems to be a little more developed than the others, which might give her reason to think she can get away with naughty-ness.
I disagree.
Her comb and waddles are much more pronounced than the other girls so I'm really hoping she is not a rooster. Her name is Jenevieve. You can see Madeline there next to her (sort of).
Bonus points if you get the literary reference for their names.
They have all been named now. Mostly by me since I'm the one taking care of them. I told the girls if they want to help me deal with the copious amounts of poop these girls deposit they can name the chicks. Amelia was game. Hadley was not, so now you know why one of them is named "blacky-crow" while the other three have french names. This little yellow girl is name Lisette because I'm freaking out about the patterns Liesl Gibson recently released.
Segue to my next non-newsy news...
I made this tunic from the Sew Lisette patterns released by Simplicity. This is called the Portfolio Tunic and I think I'll make several more and just wear them every day. Though one of my students remarked that I looked like a "German Shepherd" today. The 6th grade boy made sure to come up after class and tell me that he didn't mean the dog. He meant the kind of person who follows sheep. Huh? Huh. On the other hand I had a four year old from my preschool class tell me that he really loved my shirt and my shoes today. Why thank you, smart little man. I find it curious that so many of my students make comments about my clothes. I never know what to think about this. The look on my face was because Amelia took this picture and I was asking her if she could actually see me in the camera.
Turns out she could.
Speaking of Amelia she grabbed my attention the other morning by saying
"Mother, my masterpiece is complete."
Indeed.
It's supposed to be a screen free week for me, but I'm tanking on that goal. Maybe because I'm busy with a lot of other goals right now. I hit my 4 mile run mark last week, which shocked me and made me jump around on the track like a crazy person. But I jumped slowly because my legs were so wobbly by that point. I am thinking this made my crazy persona very believable to on-lookers. I am also about to complete 46 days of no treats. No chocolate. No cookies. Not even a cupcake on Amelia's birthday. The most sugar I've had in those 46 days came from my frosted mini wheats once or twice when I was feeling desperate. All of this running and no treat eating and calorie counting has resulted in some exciting things for me, but the scale plummeting is not one of them. That unfriendly thing is insisting on sitting tight. I'm good with it though because I took measurements and because my pants are too big.
So I will keep going because success feels pretty dang fantastic.

Color me impressed. 4 miles is good but NO TREATS is unbelievable!!! You are now officially elevated to Hero status. Perhaps you need to make yourself a Lisette Wonderwoman outfit. Love the tunic. Looks like Simplicity patterns are on sale at JoAnns this weekend. I think I'll buy all 4 of the Lisettes :)
I love all your un-newsy news! First of all, super big CONGRATS on your running and no treat stamina! That is awesome!!! Second of all, I absolutely love Amelia's masterpiece, and the look on her face is just the cutest. Thirdly, look at your chicks!! I can't wait to hear more about how it all goes with them! And finally, fabulous tunic. It looks amazing! I think it's so cute that your students make comments on your clothes, but yeah. German shepard? Whaaa?
I love this post and I miss you sorely. First, your hair -- it's the PERFECT cut for you. Love, love, love. Second, Amelia's hair and little smirk. Could that girl be any cuter? I think not. And the masterpiece -- perfect.
Well done on your running progress, Heather. Hooray, hooray. And no treats to boot! Cheers galore.
As for your chickens, well, you know me and my fear of birds, so I'll just say they have great names -- even "blacky-crow" ha ha!
Finally - your tunic is cute and I'm dying about the "German Shepard". Oh dear me!
xoxo
Lots of cool news! The "German Shepherd" remark is a classic.
I think we all need to remember the simple joys in life and not dwell too much on the big things, otherwise life goes whizzing past and we've barely noticed. Congrats on all of your wonderful accomplishments, from raising chickens to running and sewing. What can't you do?
Heather,
you look wonderful. The hair looks great plus the glasses. Really cool.
4 miles girl. wow and a double wow on your 46 days without sweets. me, I can not seem to be able to stay away from food.
Amelia has a great feeling for colors just like you. She is adorable. I miss the girls.
I miss you my friend.
Do you have twelve little hens in two straight lines?
The chickens' names come from Madeline!
I bought three of the Lisette patterns and hope to get to them during the stash game. yours turned out great.
Oh, 6th graders! Does it say something about me that the comment makes me miss them even more? I love the chicky update and the darling tunic! Thanks for checking in!!!
